About

URA is located in Brussels and is characterized by a broad spectrum of projects, varied both in scale and function. 'UR'-the name of the first city- supports a way of working. URA searches for universal, basic typologies and transforms them into a contemporary and precise identity in a specific context. The universal lies within the very specific. URA is led by two partners, Yves Malysse and Kiki Verbeeck.

Heysel tram terminus

The environment of the large recreational area of Brussels, called Heysel can be characterised as follows: several mono-functional attraction poles are placed by hazard next to each other, each with their own boundaries, identity and public.

The new tram stop becomes an orientationpoint for travellers coming from and going to the various attraction poles. An 'icon' among icons. The design is based on a central square where passengers and trams can meet. This open space is covered by a 'floating' roof, giving the area its own identity. From under the canopy, smaller steel canopies lead to each platform. The traveller recognises the individuality of these elements through their abstract structure, their simple construction and their efficient incorporation of signage and furniture. The structure contrasts with the 'free' structure of the (not- executed) central canopy.
